Today was the last day of school. With 12 of us leaving (12!?! I seriously didn't realize it was that many until my principal announced it) and the school relocating, it was pretty much a sob-fest. I've never seen so many crying people outside of a funeral. And yet, it was one of the most rewarding and fulfilling days of my life. The words that poured out of others' mouths to me, and in return my mouth to them, were sweet, filled with life, and honoring. We all recognized the roles that we had played in each others' lives. Part of my departing gift was a box full of thank you notes. As I sit here and re-read them, I am touched by the words in them; filled with truth, love, hope, and joy. If I had any doubt that I had positively impacted others' lives, those doubts would be washed away.
It is difficult to walk away from a community that has been so incredibly life-giving and healing to me. However, the words today have filled me with the confidence and courage that I needed to move forward onto this next chapter.
