Lucca is a MUST see for any Italian vacation you have planned. Lucca, yes I know you've never heard of it, but you really should go see it! Why? For a multitude of reasons: the best meal we've ever had outside of Bien Trucha, a medieval Italian town whose walls have been preserved, and a slower-pace to what you will find in other Italian vacation destinations.
We arrived on Friday evening just in time for dinner. In typical Villwock fashion, Alex had made reservations at a well-rated restaurant for us to eat at. Friends, let me tell you, this was one of the BEST meals I have ever eaten! Da Pasquale is a small place tucked off a quiet street in a town that is very quiet in the evenings. I don't think we would have found it, if it weren't for my brilliant husband's research ahead of time. I wish I would have taken photos of our meal because the artistry in the presentation was just as good as the taste. We dined on a 5-course appetizer sampler, bread with some of the best rated olive oils in the world, pork filet with artichokes (Alex's main), seafood risotto (my main), and hands-down the best cheesecake I've ever had in my life. All of this along with 4 glasses of top-rated wines for under €70. Delicious and affordable!
If any one decides to come visit us while we live in Genoa, be prepared for a trip to Lucca. Alex and I are both dying to go back to Da Pasquale and eat more of their delicious food! And of course, we would also accompany you to nearby Florence. After all, who doesn't like Florence? :)
